Environmental, Social & Governance

A Responsible Approach

Our mission is to create thriving and enduring communities by building future proofed, low energy new homes with a reduced carbon footprint.

We are committed to incorporating sustainability and social value as core principles within our business, minimising our impact on the environment for the benefit of our partners, our people and our organisation. Honesty, acting ethically, transparency and caring are clear demonstratable attributes of our business.

Environmental and Sustainability

Living Space is committed to operating in an environmentally responsible manner to reduce our impact on climate change, conserve natural resources and operate in compliance with, or exceed where possible, environmental regulations. As a responsible homebuilder, we believe we play an important role in building a sustainable future. We are focused on reducing our carbon footprint by tackling low carbon opportunities such as reducing waste and conserving natural resources in our construction processes, supply chain and throughout our business.  Building sustainable, affordable homes that allow homeowners to reduce their carbon footprint by utilising smart home technology to reduce energy consumption and conserve water.

We advocate creating sustainable communities by educating homebuyers, business partners and other stakeholders on environmentally sustainable practices. We create places with movement networks that support sustainable travel. Our developments include many biodiverse and ecological enhancements, such as tree planting, green infrastructure, nesting boxes, bat boxes and dark streets. Where the ground permits, we include above ground sustainable urban drainage features, with an emphasis upon wet features, where possible, to provide both sustainable drainage but also additional wildlife and biodiversity benefits. We continually review our design code principles to positively influence and engage with the policy makers and local stakeholders.

Social Responsibility, People and Culture

Living Space is committed to being a socially responsible business by fostering an environment of diversity and inclusion, operating ethically and supporting our local communities. We create a strong and positive work culture, guided by our vision and values, promoting high levels of personal and professional integrity. We value everyone and work as one team by fostering openness, sustainability, and respect. An inclusive and diverse working environment is encouraged, utilising a broad range of perspectives, ideas and experiences to help shape and improve our decision making. Flexible and agile working helps to retain our talented people, increase employee engagement and wellbeing. We support our workforce to maintain good mental, physical, social and financial health through initiatives such as private healthcare,

wellbeing programmes, a hardship fund, social committee events and ongoing professional and personal development. We invest significantly in the working environments by creating and maintaining a safe and healthy workplace, where there is mutual trust and respect and where every person feels responsible for the performance and reputation of our business. Respect for one another and each other’s individual rights and customs are key cornerstones for our team. We work towards enhancing diversity in our workforce by recruiting, employing and promoting people only on the basis of objective criteria and the qualifications and abilities needed for the job to be performed. We continuously engage with our people to convert our core values into action.

Governance

We are committed to upholding a culture dedicated to ethical business behaviour and responsible corporate activity. We believe strong corporate governance is the foundation to delivering on our commitments. Strong governance, a robust risk and compliance framework ensure that we apply, at all times, high levels of personal and professional integrity. Policies, procedures and ongoing training throughout our employees’ careers has been put in place to ensure that the highest standards of compliance are embedded across all our operations. Our risk identification and management system sits at the heart of all operational activity, ranging from the appraisal of new sites, assessment of the prospects of planning success to building safely. We manage our financial risk centrally through appropriate financing structures, strategically allocating funds to the right projects at the right time and in the right locations.

We fully comply with our statutory and other regulatory obligations and act in a way which upholds our reputation as a responsible corporate citizen, including full and transparent disclosure to tax authorities. We will not enter into or maintain relationships with individuals or organisations engaged in activities which go against our ethical standards. We do not work with suppliers involved in money laundering, corruption/ bribery, child labour, forced labour, or the destruction of high conservation value areas. Our Supply Chain Framework Agreements ensure that our suppliers share our required standards for safety, quality, ethics, human rights and the environment. Priority is given to local suppliers and sub-contractors to help reduce our carbon footprint. We proactively work with a low-carbon supply chain and sub-contractors, who operate responsibly and resource efficiently.
